Release Party
We picked up the physical copies of Myrtlewood on Thursday, December 10th. The release party, where people had the first opportunity to see the book in person, was a mere two days later on Saturday, December 12th at Mother Foucault's Bookshop.
Andrew made a bunch of the food from the book to share. Sofie and Lucas from Secret Restaurant helped by serving and managing all the food business during the event. Peter and Kate managed the distribution of the books to Kickstarter backers. Lots of former students of Andrew and Kate's showed up, so the atmosphere was lively with so many children about! We spun some great Django Reinhardt records from a box set Craig (owner/proprietor of Mother Foucault's) had lying around.
We ate: Soup for Sibylle Baier, which was the first dish photographed for the book, exactly 2 years previously (December 12, 2013), and is the first recipe in the book. French herb potato salad, a classic, delicious potato salad, featuring herbs from Andrew's garden. Filbert/black tea spice cake, in a long loaf pan. Andrew made three kinds of bread, some remixes of breads in Tartine Book n.3: Emmer/oat porridge, Red wheat/rye, Rye/rye porridge. To go with the bread, we had good butter, some port soaked figs, quick pickled Bosc pears, and homemade mustard. Water Avenue Coffee generously donated a lot of delicious Guatamala Santa Isabel coffee, which we kept brewing throughout the three hour party!
